About Artle Australia

What is Artle Australia?

Artle Australia is an art guessing game focused on Australian artists working across mediums. Each round presents up to four works by a single artist. The aim is to identify the artist in as few guesses as possible by recognising shared motifs, colour, or stylistic patterns.

The project is based on Artle by the National Gallery of Art, a game that is a great way of discovering new artists, or refining the ability to recognise already known artists.
The game that I have built focuses specifically on Australian artists. There is something particular about seeing this country through the eyes of its artists. The colours, light, and visual language are distinct, and this project centres that perspective.

About me

I’m Isa, or Valdr (valdr.com.au), a Melbourne-based artist working across technology, urban environments, and ecological systems, with a focus on relationships and associations of colour.

Artle Australia was developed as a personal passion project and as part of my own artistic learning and investigation. All artist biographies on the site were researched and written by me as part of that process.

Images and permissions

For artists whose work remains under copyright, I have worked directly with the artists to obtain permission to use images and write about their work. This has been a collaborative process, and I am grateful for their willingness to be a part of this project.

For artists whose work is in the public domain, images are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and reproduced under Creative Commons licences or as public domain material.
